These are busy times for Brian “Head” Welch. The Korn guitarist is ramping up to the May 17 release of his new book, With My Eyes Wide Open: Miracles and Mistakes on My Way Back to Korn, and he’s teaming up with Loudwire to premiere the new Love and Death song “Lo Lamento” in coordination with the launch of the pre-orders for the book.

The song starts with a few somber sounding opening notes before building in intensity toward some crushing bass and guitar work. Welch is flanked by Breaking Benjamin’s Jasen Rauch, who produced the song, JR Bareis (from Islander and Love and Death) and Dan Johnson from RED. Head shares vocal duties on the track with Bareis on the track, which can be heard in the player above.

Head tells us, “‘Lo Lamento’ is a song that came from an idea producer Jasen Rauch and writer Mark Holeman had on our last album, Between Here and Lost. It was actually the original chorus for our song ‘I W8 4 U,’ but it sounded way too melodic for that crushing song as you can imagine. To me ‘Lo Lamento’ paints a picture lyrically about infidelity and a once picture perfect relationship left in ruins.”

Meanwhile, as stated, today (March 15) marks the start of pre-orders for Brian “Head” Welch’s latest book, With My Eyes Wide Open: Miracles and Mistakes on My Way Back To Korn. As the title suggests, the book shares the story of Head’s trial by fire after leaving the band. During this time, the guitarist spent time as a father to a teen lost in depression and self-mutilation while also facing the challenges of being a new solo artist. He also speaks about the shattering betrayal of a trusted friend and how that affected him. All of this led to his journey to eventually reconciling with Korn and reconnecting with the band members he considered his family.

The book, which Head wrote with Carol Traver, is 240 pages long and features 16 full color photos from Head’s own personal archive. Fans can pre-order the book via Amazon, Barnes and Noble, ChristianBook.com and at Welch’s official webstore. Those who purchase the book at his webstore will receive a free download of the track “Lo Lamento.”

“Look On Up” was cowritten with Owl City’s Adam Young. The song explores the dangers of social media obsession and the “fear of missing out,” suggesting “it’s time I put down my devices and I start to live my life.” This track is the first from Relient K’s upcoming album, due out this summer. The group played the track live across festival stages and throughout their own headlining tour late last year.
